Software is a computer program that instructs the functions of the hardware. You cannot see or touch the software, it is like music that you can hear but you cannot touch. The actual software is data and can be stored electronically. Example: Microsoft Office.

The device that holds the software is a CD, and the CD is hardware.Or the hard drive can hold the software and the hard drive is hardware.
